They enable the recovery of valuable raw materials from biomass<\/strong> whilst simultaneously remediating contaminated sites<\/strong>. In this way, previously unused or contaminated sites can be revitalised and developed for new uses. These innovative approaches create regional value chains<\/strong> and make a direct contribution to achieving key objectives of structural change. They promote the creation of a liveable environment<\/strong>, support the development and establishment of sustainable value chains<\/strong> with future-proof energy structures<\/strong>, and contribute to the creation of new jobs<\/strong> in the regions. The Mansfeld-S\u00fcdharz structural change region offers ideal conditions for establishing sustainable metal extraction and bioeconomic material flows in Saxony-Anhalt as a model region. Through interconnected process chains<\/strong> \u2013 ranging from plant-based mining, through biomass utilisation and metal recovery, to the production of bioenergy, bio-based materials and bioeconomy products \u2013 environmental and economic objectives can be effectively combined<\/strong>. This generates measurable added value in the short term<\/strong> whilst simultaneously delivering ecological benefits for the region<\/strong>, setting an example for others to follow.
