Structural Change &
Participation

Using qualitative and participatory research methods, we shed light on the lived, everyday and emotional dimensions of transformation processes in the region and use them to open up new potential for participation.

The A1 innovation team develops practice-theoretical perspectives on transformation as a lived experience. Using qualitative, creative and participatory research methods, we shed light on the everyday, situated and emotional dimensions of regional transformation processes. In this way, we create a greater understanding of the lived and experienced relationships of different actors to questions of transformation, justice and participation in the region.

Perspectives for research
into petromodernity

Processes require changes in people’s minds, not just a change in technologies – we are specialists in the “soft” factors.

“Chemistry gives bread, prosperity, beauty.” Ideological promises and actual successes of fossil-modern societies manifest themselves in people’s aspirations, desires and beliefs. These factors could prove to be the “hardest” and most difficult to change. The Energy Futures and Petro-Modern Research Team investigates the historical and socio-economic impacts of the petro-industrial era to understand and facilitate the transition to a post-petro-modern society.

Networking with regions undergoing
structural change

We connect academic research networks worldwide to pool knowledge for just and sustainable transformations.

By connecting academic research networks from different regions, we are creating a unique network on just transformations. This initiative positions our region as a key player in international sustainability research and strengthens intellectual connections for the future.

Fair transitions, educational and participation opportunities
for children, young people and adults

We empower people in the region through research for a just transition to the future.

The “Just Transitions” innovation team focuses on educational and participation opportunities in southern Saxony-Anhalt. We examine regional educational opportunities, organizations and the living environments of children and young people undergoing structural change. By gathering knowledge and experience, we aim to understand the specific local conditions and needs and develop recommendations for action for policy-makers and education providers.

Green Deal, Blue Card, Supply Chain Act and Funding Directive: looking for a translation?

We examine the legal and political-economic aspects of socio-ecological transformation. The aim is to combine local transformation processes with value-oriented internationalization, to strengthen sustainable economic development and to develop strategies for a fair distribution of opportunities and resources.
