LegalTech Lab
ASGLA Calculator
Every year, numerous maintenance calculations are made in Germany for the alternating custody model – and almost every one of them is a challenge. Why? Because the calculation is so complex according to current court guidelines that even experienced lawyers regularly have to resort to a calculator. Our digital calculator solves this problem for everyone involved: with just a few clicks, parents receive a reliable initial assessment of their financial situation, while judges and youth welfare offices can perform their calculations in a standardised and efficient manner. One tool, two perspectives, a common basis for fair decisions.
The project was initiated by tax lawyer Viselle Wöhlert, who developed an initial Python prototype in January 2025. Since March 2025, the JTC LegalTech Lab Halle has been coordinating the professional development: Luis Bartsch, a law student at the University of Halle and employee of the lab, ensures the legal correctness and timeliness of the calculations. Adelia Arvinta, a computer science student, is responsible for modern web development in Elm as part of her bachelor’s thesis and implements user-friendly functions. This interdisciplinary collaboration between law, technology and practice ensures that the tool is both legally sound and intuitive to use.
Since April 2025, the calculator has been tested and optimised by specialist family law solicitors. As an open source project, the entire code is transparently accessible. Your data remains completely protected: the integrated QR code system enables secure local storage directly on your device – without central servers or data transfer.
The calculator is available free of charge to all interested parties. We welcome your feedback and invite you to test the tool and contribute to its further development.
The calculator does not replace legal advice and does not claim to be complete or accurate in individual cases.
