Postindustrial Futures
Our research lays the foundations to promote social cohesion in the region and to accompany a just and sustainable transition to post-fossil economies.
Transformation is an ongoing, often disruptive process rather than something that somehow happens to begin today. We explore how past experiences of modernization and system collapse continue to affect a region heavily shaped by extractive industries, and how postindustrial futures are (or could be) made present.

The research team “Postindustrial Futures” investigates the materialities, social practices and inscribed logics of past, present and future geography-making in former mining regions. Starting from a relational concept of territorialisation, we investigate how transformative dynamics produce new spaces and subjectivities in everyday landscapes of multiple ruination. Our research lays the foundations to promote social cohesion in the region and to accompany a just and sustainable transition to post-fossil economies.
