On May 12, the Legal Tech Lab welcomed interested attendees to its offices on Große Steinstraße.
Following a brief introduction to the JTC project, Prof. Dr. Lucia Sommerer delivered a keynote address offering fascinating insights into her research on predictive policing. The focus was on the opportunities and challenges of automated crime forecasting. In particular, questions regarding transparency, risks of discrimination, and constitutional limits provided numerous points of discussion for the subsequent talks.
Visitors took the opportunity to engage in personal exchanges over snacks and drinks. They were particularly interested in the JTC’s own project on the digitization of enforcement law, but there was also lively discussion about the use of artificial intelligence in the legal profession and potential liability issues arising from erroneous AI-generated legal briefs.
The open house is organized by the JTC research team LegalTech Lab and is designed to provide (prospective) law students and other interested parties with insights into the application areas of IT and law. It thus complements the offerings of the first-semester orientation week and the numerous practical and introductory courses in the field of legal tech.
