Pillar A brings together the humanities and social sciences perspective at the JTC and examines how socially just, sustainable, and inclusive change can be achieved. The focus is on social dynamics, participation, and transformation processes. As part of the Institute for Structural Change and Sustainability (HALIS) at the University of Halle, the innovation teams work closely with partners in the field on joint projects and promote mutual transfer between research, society, and business. Their shared goal is to provide scientific support for structural change, actively participate in it, and contribute knowledge and ideas for practical application.

Network activities

The JTC establishes a European research network connecting the 40 Just Transition Regions within the European Union on a scientific level. By that, we help building a growing European network of expertise with international, european and local significance for knowledge transfer and political councelling. Twice a year, a JTC-EU-Networking Conference is taking place and an interactive map for researchers is being built to achieve this.

JTC-EU-Networking Conference

With our EU-wide and international academic JTC-EU-Networking Conference we offer researchers and cooperation partners from different disciplines both:
The integration into an existing network and the networking of academic communities as a basis for long-term cooperation on social, environmental, technological, and economic issues in Just Transition regions.

JTC_Oak – The Open academic Network

JTC_Oak – The Open academic Network aims to foster dialogue among those engaged with the social, environmental and political impacts of regions undergoing structural change. To this end, we have developed a range of free, non-proprietary and open-source resources, including a map, a database and a social network visualisation. These resources were created by Dr Gregory Gan with the support of Susanna Segura Rütz, Milan Harms and colleagues at the JTC.
