Vita
Ralf Wehrspohn has been Professor of Experimental Physics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) since 2006, holding the Chair of Microstructure-Based Materials Design. He is also a co-founder and managing director of the German Lithium Institute (ITEL). He obtained his PhD in physics in Oldenburg and Palaiseau (France) and was a junior research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics in Halle. From 2006 to 2019, he was Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems (IMWS) and later served on the Fraunhofer Executive Board, where he was responsible for technology marketing and business models.
Prof. Wehrspohn was a member of the German Federal Government’s Commission on Growth, Structural Change and Employment (Coal Commission) and co-developed the concept for the European Center for Just Transition Research and Impact-Driven Transfer (JTC). Since 2024, he has served as a member of the Executive Board and pillar spokesperson for Natural and Material Sciences at the JTC.
