Industrial waste Valorization to Value Added Chemicals
Green Molecules Conversion
Valorization of complex industrial side streams such as off-gases, acidic or chloride containing by-products, and process residues
This project supports the JTC mission by translating regional industrial challenges into measurable sustainability impact. Building on our ongoing collaborations with partners in and around the Halle–Leuna chemical park ecosystem, we develop and demonstrate circular, low-carbon pathways that turn industrial waste streams into valuable resources—reducing emissions, strengthening local value chains, and enabling a just transition for the region.
What we do
We focus on the valorization of complex industrial side streams—such as off-gases, acidic or chloride-containing by-products, and process residues—that are currently treated as disposal burdens. Our approach is to convert these streams into secondary feedstocks for clean chemicals and materials through integrated process development.
Core approach
- Park-level integration and industrial symbiosis
We map and quantify regional waste and side streams (composition, variability, volume, logistics) and identify the best cross-company “matches” to enable resource sharing and closed-loop utilization within the chemical park network. - New processes and scalable technologies
We develop robust, industry-ready solutions across the full chain: selective separation → targeted conversion → purification to specification. Emphasis is placed on modular unit operations and process intensification to support continuous operation and scale-up. - Joint validation with industry partners
In close collaboration with chemical park stakeholders, we test real samples, benchmark performance (purity, energy demand, stability, CO₂ footprint), and translate lab results into pilot and demonstration concepts.
Expected impact
By turning waste into value, we aim to deliver:
- Lower disposal costs and reduced environmental footprint for regional industry
- New circular value chains and local jobs in sustainable chemistry and materials
- Replicable technology packages and roadmaps for other industrial regions
- A practical contribution to the JTC vision of impact-driven research and transfer that accelerates the region’s transition toward climate-neutral production
