On 24th and 25th June 2026, JTC-Team A7 (Transregionale Just Transition Governance) held a workshop on „Transregional Resource Governance and Transnational Value Chains“. Among the guests were Prof. Martha Belete (Addis Ababa University), Prof. Kevin Crow (MIT), Prof. Lina Lorenzoni-Escobar (EAFIT University Medellín) und Lea Nele Schmidt (Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg). On behalf of the JTC Prof. Christian Tietje, PD Dr. Katrin Seidel, Dr. Timm Sureau and Chiara Gemoll participated.
The workshop focused on the governance of critical raw materials, the regulation of transnational value chains and the development of a joint research agenda. Presentations and group discussions explored current research approaches and potential transregional contributions from Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Lea Nele Schmidt, for example, presented approaches to regulating terrestrial mineral resources in the context of the energy transition. Prof. Kevin Crow and Prof. Lina Lorenzoni-Escobar presented their Medellín Manifesto on the regulation of transnational value chains.
The JTC Team A7 would like to thank all participants for the lively discussions and valuable exchange of ideas.
The academic workshop was complemented by a public dialogue event, ‘Film Evening with Discussion’, on the raw materials of the future, which took place in the late afternoon of 25 June.
